When did Ukraine declare independence?
On August 24, 1991, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine. A total of 346 members of parliament voted in favor.
One of the authors of the Act was Ukrainian dissident and politician Levko Lukyanenko. According to his recollections, he drafted the document in an ordinary school notebook in about an hour and a half.ї
