Best places to see sunsets and sunrises in Kyiv
Viewpoints, riverside spots, parks and panoramic locations across the capital.
Watching the sunrise or sunset is one of the best ways to experience Kyiv’s atmosphere. The city stretches across hills along the Dnipro River, so you do not always need to find a dedicated viewpoint. You can simply head down to the river, climb one of the hills or move a little away from the tourist centre.
From riverside promenades and green parks to panoramic viewpoints, there are plenty of Kyiv sunrise spots and sunset locations to choose from. The Visit Kyiv team has put together a selection of the best places to watch the sunrise and sunset in Kyiv.
Best places to watch the sunrise in Kyiv
Volodymyrska Hill
If you are looking for Kyiv sunrise spots in the heart of the city, head to Volodymyrska Hill. The park stretches along the hills above the Dnipro, with viewpoints overlooking Poshtova Square, the river, and the Left Bank, where the morning sun appears. It’s also a great photo spot for capturing the river and the city in the early morning light.
During the warmer months, sunrise concerts by musician Art Crowny are also held at Volodymyrska Hill. If you would like to start the day with live music, check the current concert schedule in advance.
After your morning walk through the park, you can continue to the Glass Bridge or head down to Poshtova Square for a coffee.

Eternal Glory Park
Another option for a morning walk close to the city centre is Eternal Glory Park, around a 15-minute walk from Arsenalna metro station.
The park is located on the Dnipro hills, offering wide views of the Left Bank, the river and part of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. For sunrise, head towards the open viewpoint overlooking the Dnipro — this is where you can best see the morning light appear above the opposite bank.
If you want to make the most of your morning, continue through the park towards the Lavra or walk back towards Arsenalna and Mariinsky Park.

Obolonska embankment and Obolonskyi island
For a sunrise by the water away from the main tourist routes, head to Obolon.
Start your walk along Obolonska Embankment and then cross the Azov Wave Bridge to Obolonskyi Island. The island has walking paths and spots by the water where you can enjoy views of the Dnipro and the morning sky.
After sunrise, head back to Natalka Park and stop for breakfast at one of the cafés and restaurants along the embankment.

Riverside promenade near Poshtova Square
If you are staying in central Kyiv and do not want to travel far, head down to Poshtova Square and walk towards the Dnipro. The riverside promenade offers views of the river and the Left Bank as the first light of the day spreads across the city.
It is a convenient option for an early morning outing: Poshtova Square is easily accessible by metro, and afterwards you can stay by the river or walk up to Volodymyrska Hill once the funicular starts operating.
This spot is particularly convenient for summer mornings, when there is very little time between the end of curfew and sunrise.

Vytachiv — sunrise outside Kyiv
For a sunrise away from the city, head to Vytachiv, a village about an hour’s drive from Kyiv. Located on high hills above the Dnipro, it offers open views without city buildings or traffic — just the river, rolling hills and a wide horizon. Bring some coffee and enjoy a morning picnic outdoors.
After sunrise, stop at Vytach Bakery, which serves freshly baked bread, sweet and savoury pastries, as well as breakfast and main dishes. Check the bakery’s current opening hours before your trip.
Getting there: The easiest option is by car or taxi. The journey from Kyiv takes around an hour, depending on traffic.

What to know before watching the sunrise in Kyiv
When planning an early morning outing, keep Kyiv’s curfew in mind. It is currently in effect from 01:00 to 05:00, and being outside during these hours without a special permit is prohibited.
Plan summer sunrises especially carefully: dawn comes early, leaving very little time to reach your chosen spot after curfew ends. Check the sunrise time in advance, plan your route and set off as soon as the curfew ends.
Best sunset spots in Kyiv
Trukhaniv Island
For one of the best sunset spots in Kyiv, head to Trukhaniv Island. Located opposite central Kyiv, it offers a panoramic view of the hills on the right bank, including Poshtova Square, Volodymyrska Hill and St Andrew’s Church.
The view is particularly beautiful in the evening: the sun sets towards the right bank, casting its last light over Kyiv’s historic skyline and reflecting on the Dnipro.
During the warmer months, arrive early enough to have a picnic and spend a few hours by the river before sunset. As dusk falls, you can watch the lights begin to appear along the opposite bank.

Landscape Alley
Landscape Alley is a popular recreational area near Starokyivska Hill, with views over Podil, Vozdvyzhenka, and the hills around St Andrew’s Church. Its wide views make it one of the most convenient Kyiv sunset viewpoints for watching the sun go down throughout the year.
Arrive around half an hour before sunset to walk along the alley, find a good viewing spot and enjoy the golden hour light over the city. Stay a little longer to watch the colours change as the sun goes down.
Afterwards, head down Andriivskyi Descent and finish the evening at one of the restaurants and cafés in Podil.

The area around the Motherland Monument is one of the highest panoramic spots on this route. From here, you can see the Dnipro, the Pechersk hills, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the Left Bank.
If you want to go even higher, the monument has two observation decks: the Lower Observation Deck at 36.6 metres and the Shield Observation Deck at 91 metres.
The observation decks are open until 19:00. In autumn and winter, this is usually late enough to catch the sunset from above. In summer, however, it is better to watch the sunset from the open grounds around the monument, as the sun sets later. Check the current opening hours and visiting conditions before your trip.
