Spring weather in Kyiv varies a lot depending on the month: March is quite cool with occasional snow, while you may already feel like summer by May. The average temperature increases gradually, and nighttime temperatures remain cool but manageable with proper clothing.

Visit a contemporary art exhibition at PinchukArtCenter
In early spring, when the weather is still unpredictable and Kyiv’s blooming is only just beginning, the city’s museums and galleries become a wonderful place to spend a chilly afternoon.
One of the most popular art spaces in the capital is PinchukArtCentre — a free venue in the city center on Bessarabska, featuring original contemporary art exhibitions that change with each season.
Currently, the exhibition “Joy” is running until August 30, 2026. Visitors can expect original installations, interactive exhibits, and even a “marshmallow room” made entirely of candy and marshmallows!
Within the exhibition, you can also get a free tattoo, choosing from one of the original designs by contemporary Ukrainian artist Alevtyna Kakhidze. It’s best to sign up for a tattoo session in advance on the art center’s website.
In addition to the exhibition halls, One Love Coffee café operates on the top floor of the space, where you can enjoy coffee with panoramic views of the city center. A cup of coffee here costs around $3–$4 (135–180 UAH).
Grab legendary pastries at Yaroslava and have a picnic at Peyzazhnaya Alley
“Yaroslava”, Kyiv’s oldest bakery, has been a local favorite for over 79 years with its homemade pastries. For many Kyivans, it’s not just a bakery but a place of childhood memories — somewhere they once went after family walks to enjoy a pastry with cocoa.
The bakery offers a huge selection of pastries at prices from $1 to $1.25 (40–55 UAH), as well as soups, mains, salads, and hot drinks. You won’t leave hungry.
After you grab a few pastries, it’s time to have a picnic on Peyzazhnaya Alley — one of the city’s most atmospheric viewpoints overlooking Podil and the Dnipro River, where Kyivans gather as the weather warms to enjoy spring in the capital.
Take a Bicycle Ride Along Obolon Embankment
If the bustling city center isn’t for you, head out for a quiet cycling ride along Obolon Embankment. It’s one of the best places in Kyiv where locals go to unwind along the Dnipro River.
Unlike the central part of the city, there are dedicated bike lanes here and no steep climbs, making this route perfect for leisurely rides and family cycling trips.
Plus, it’s easy to reach the Natalka Park from here. In spring, it’s especially beautiful: the avenues are covered in greenery, trees start blooming, and along the embankment, you’ll find plenty of people coming for picnics, runs, and walks by the water.
You can rent a bike through the Bikenow app, where you can easily find the nearest vehicle with an interactive map. An hourly bike ride costs about $2 (90 UAH).

Visit a fair or festival at VDNKh
In spring, VDNKh transforms into one of Kyiv’s main open-air venues: festivals, concerts, and city events take place here, and the space fills with people, music, and street food.
The most popular events at VDNKh in April:
- Easter Celebrations — thematic events with fairs, workshops, and tastings of paska — traditional Easter pastries;
- Courage — a large charitable festival featuring vintage flea markets, food, live music performances, and other entertainment;
- Book Country — Ukraine’s largest book festival, where residents from different parts of the country come to meet their favorite authors and attend thematic events for book lovers.
And don’t be disappointed if you miss any event, because VDNKh offers plenty of other interesting activities: you can relax in the hammock garden, ride a bicycle through the forest, or simply grab an ice cream and stroll through the parks.

Watch the sunrise at Gryshko Botanical Garden
In May, during the lilac blooming season, Gryshko Botanical Garden attracts Kyivans who come here to watch the sunrise. As early as 5 a.m., dozens of people line up near the main entrance to secure the best spots among the blooming lilacs.
So if waking up before dawn isn’t a problem for you, bring a thermos with coffee and head out to watch the sunrise at the most beautiful meadow, offering views of the golden domes of Vydubytsky Monastery and Kyiv’s left bank.
During the blooming season, the Botanical Garden opens its doors at approximately 5:20–5:30 a.m., and entrance tickets cost about $3.50 (150 UAH). You can pay for entry with a card at the turnstile or book in advance online on the garden’s website.

Visit Pyrohiv
Pyrohiv is Europe’s largest open-air museum, featuring folk architecture monuments from different regions of Ukraine.
The museum feels like stepping into a traditional Ukrainian village with picturesque cottages, cherry orchards, windmills, and cozy meadows for walks and picnics. You can enter some of the houses to see ancient stoves, wooden furniture, and household items that Ukrainians used in the 17th–20th centuries.
In spring, Pyrohiv organizes exhibitions and events dedicated to Ukrainian holidays featuring dancing, fairs, workshops, and traditional celebrations, allowing you not only to see but also experience Ukrainian traditions firsthand. Check the museum’s website for the event schedule.
Watch a movie screening at Sunset Terrace
Sunset Terrace is a summer restaurant and lounge bar where classic films are screened outdoors throughout the week, alongside live music and DJ sets.
The venue is located on the territory of Protasov Yar — an ideal place to enjoy the sunset with a cocktail in hand.
