National Art Museum of Ukraine
About National Art Museum of Ukraine
The National Art Museum of Ukraine is the oldest museum in Kyiv and a true treasury of Ukrainian art. Its collection spans more than 40,000 works — from Kyivan Rus’ icons to contemporary art, including sculpture, painting and graphics.
The museum opened in 1904 and has changed its name twelve times throughout its history. Locals often call it “the museum with the lions,” as two stone lions at the entrance appear to guard the artworks inside.
After the start of the full-scale invasion, most of the collection was moved to secure locations, but the museum remains active. It regularly hosts exhibitions, workshops, art lectures and film screenings.
Visitor Tips:
- Tickets cost 150–250 UAH, depending on the event
- Entry is through the service door on the side of the building
- The museum closes during air-raid alerts
