Koleso Theater
About Koleso Theater
Koleso Theater (“The Wheel” Theater) sits on historic Andriyivskyi Descent and holds just 70 visitors, so every performance feels very close and personal. In summer, shows move to a cosy courtyard stage. The house itself has an unexpected past: it once belonged to a famous Kyiv jeweller and later became a notorious house of ill repute. Today, it’s one of the most atmospheric theaters in the city and a Podil icon.
Its programme mixes classical plays with modern interpretations. The signature feature is the café-stage, where guests can enjoy snacks, pastries, desserts and drinks while the performance goes on.
The theater’s best-known production is “In Kyiv, in Podil, or ‘Where Do You Hang Your Laundry?’” which has been staged over a thousand times. It’s witty, musical, with a touch of Jewish humour – plus a glass of wine.
Tickets are typically 300–400 UAH, and treats in the café-hall start at around 50 UAH. Seating is open, so arriving a little early is a good idea.
