St Volodymyr’s Cathedral
About St Volodymyr’s Cathedral
St Volodymyr’s Cathedral is one of the most significant Orthodox churches in Eastern Europe. It houses the incorrupt relics of St Barbara, one of the most venerated saints in the Christian world — a shrine that draws pilgrims from across the globe each year. The cathedral’s bright yellow facades and seven domes stand out from afar, and its Neo-Byzantine design gives the building a striking sense of grandeur.
The cathedral is dedicated to Prince Volodymyr the Great, who baptized Kyivan Rus in 988. Inside, you’ll find a remarkable set of late-19th-century murals: monumental frescoes and decorative motifs blending classical iconography with elements of Ukrainian modernism. It’s often described as a “living encyclopedia of religious art.”
After your visit, it’s easy to stroll through Taras Shevchenko Park or stop by the Fomin Botanical Garden just around the corner.
Entrance to St Volodymyr’s Cathedral is free.
