Panteleimon the Cat
About Panteleimon the Cat
The monument to Panteleimon the Cat is a small sculpture near the Golden Gate, created in memory of the beloved cat from the restaurant Osteria Pantagruel. The grey Persian cat, affectionately called Pantyusha, was the restaurant’s true mascot. Like a proper host, he politely watched over guests and made sure everyone enjoyed their visit.
Sadly, a fire broke out at the restaurant, and the cat did not survive. Staff and regular visitors later commemorated him with a monument that symbolises love and gratitude for pets who become part of the family.
Today, people often stop by to make a wish. According to local legend, if you stroke Panteleimon’s head and touch his tail, your wish will come true. That’s why these parts of the sculpture shine from countless hopeful touches.
