Kontraktova Square
About Kontraktova Square
Kontraktova Square is the heart of Podil, Kyiv’s old riverside district. It’s always lively: students gather here, street musicians play, and the square occasionally hosts exhibitions and city events. Narrow side streets, historic buildings and churches give the area its distinct charm, with details like the 270-year-old Samson Fountain adding a touch of history.
The square’s main landmark is the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy — 21 years older than Harvard.
You’ll also find plenty of great places to eat on and around the square. Locals especially recommend the Italian restaurants Tisto, Syr i Titka Bella and Vero Vero. For Ukrainian cuisine with a river view, head to Khutorets na Dnipri. Wine and craft beer lovers will enjoy Win Bar and Punkraft.
