About Andriivskyi Descent
Andriivskyi Descent is one of Kyiv’s most famous streets, linking Podil with the Old Town since the era of Kyivan Rus. Often compared to Montmartre, it’s known for its creative atmosphere, open-air artists and beautifully preserved historic buildings. Walk a little, and you’ll pass galleries, small theatres and architecture that tells the story of old Podil.
What makes Andriivskyi Descent special
- Its main highlight is St Andrew’s Church, designed by Baroque architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli. The gilded details and elegant facade are stunning up close, and the viewing platform next to the church offers one of the best photo spots in the city.
- The street is also a cultural hotspot. The One Street Museum shows what life here used to look like, while the Theatre on Podil and the Koleso Theatre host contemporary performances in cozy halls.
- Year-round, you’ll find painters and craftspeople selling their work along the street, adding to its artistic feel. It’s one of the best places to pick up memorable gifts from Kyiv.
- Some of the city’s most popular modern Ukrainian restaurants are located here too, including 100 Rokiv Tomu Vpered, Za Dvoma Zaitsiamy and Kanapa. Expect cozy interiors and excellent food.
