Q&A about HVLV Bar
HVLV was founded in 2015 by four students, including Andrii Yankovskyi, Yurii Pohrebniak, and Dasha Minasenko. What began as an idea to host an afterparty following a film festival eventually grew into a bar known for its live music, parties, and cultural events.
The name HVLV is derived from Khvyliovyi. According to one story, it was inspired by a wavy brick wall built inside the bar. It also references the Ukrainian writer Mykola Khvyliovyi, a leading figure of the Executed Renaissance cultural movement. The bar’s first party was called “I (Romance)”, after Mykola Khvyliovyi’s famous novella.
