Kyiv Small Opera
About Kyiv Small Opera
Kyiv Small Opera is a charming cultural landmark that has shaped the city’s artistic scene for over 120 years. It looks a little like a doll-sized theater quietly tucked away near Lukianivska metro station. In its early days it served as a hub of public education with a tea room, a library, film screenings, lectures and literary evenings. Later its stage hosted the Young Theater troupe led by the renowned Ukrainian director Les Kurbas, and in the early 20th century it even operated as one of Kyiv’s first cinemas.
Today Kyiv Small Opera hosts concerts, theater performances, parties, festivals, film screenings and other cultural events. On the ground floor there’s a small café for a quick coffee before or after the show.
The building has survived several renovations and even a missile strike in 2022, yet it continues to welcome audiences and remains an important part of Kyiv’s cultural life.
